Workbench Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I just set up my 3 Dimarzio super II's in my old Ibanez to change between humbucking and single coil. When I switch to single coil I get alot of hum and or buzz, but not nearly as much when humbucking. Is this normal, I know single coils do not cancel hum but........Thanks! Chris Quote
lovekraft Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Yes, it's completely normal - if you want a single coil sound without the hum, try running the coils in parallel rather than just splitting them. Quote
Workbench Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 How do I go about doing that exactly? Thanks! Chris Quote
Smarty Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Also try shielding the cavities and pickguard of your guitar and eliminate ground loops (star grounding is an excellent strategy). There are many tutorials available that cover the subject in-depth. Just by eliminating ground loops in my Squier Strat, I've got it to a very reasonable level of hum. I can turn my cheap Frontman 15G amp to 10 on the clean channel with it and I have almost no hum. Guitarnuts.com has a very good tutorial that you should try out. Regards, ~Al Quote
Opencan Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 wiring the humbucker to a parallel \ series is pretty easy. you get a DPDTand wire it as followed: ground--> x x <--coil 2 positive coil 2 negative-->x x <--coil 1 positive x-x seem to me like it will work, but never tried it Quote
