narked
Can spalted maple be used for carved tops (Les Paul style)? Asking as I'm planning to start work on a Les Paul within the next month or so, and my current plan is to use spalted maple for the top. Looking on the Warmoth site (wasn't going to use them, I'm actually doing a proper DIY job, was just browsing ) they only offer spalted maple on flat tops. So, is it useable for carved tops or isn't it up to the job? Cheers.
moojiefulagin
It can be done, but spalted maple is not as strong as regular so be careful. Check ebay for the wood. Do you know the answer to my burl neck question?

narked
Oooh, cheers. Definately possible then. That's made me quite happy, as I really love the look of spalted maple, and didn't want to have to choose another wood for the top. Thanks!
