stringkilla
I have seen this thread many times here. It always leads to expensive solutions to Chrome and other metalic type finishes. I stumbled upon a site where it comes in self adhesive sheets, plus, many different exotic finishes are availible. Yes some of the equipment can be pricey, but, a trip to Rokler.com will get you a HVLP setup for under $80.00 . The site I've found is alsacorp.com. Check this one out, it may provide seeds for future reference. Good luck.
GuitarGuy
The problem with the alsa chrome is you need a mirror surface before you spray it. So that means a 2-part poly clearcoat buffed, then chrome, then another clearcoat. And even then it doesn't look like real chrome. And wood moves so in a matter of days, weeks or months, you will start to see the grain appear in the chrome. Honestly, if a chome finish is what you want, make a metal guitar. You seriously need to go to their site. Because the info you posted is incorrect. and with any paint job, the finish product starts all the way from the initial prep. And their finish DO look like real chrome. I have seen it in person! The only problem is that the spray set up for it cost about $8000 last time I checked. ALSA Corp is a name very recognizable here, not many of us use it, and since I got no spray booth I'm still waitng to give it a try.

It applies like the base/clear (or at least thats what i inferred he was talking about) I've seen the setup that looks like its sprayed chemically or with water. But thats not what I was talking about. The price is so outlandish one would be foolish to bother with it. The point still remains that the surface needs to be flawless. With a guitar it's not going to stay that way. Aside: I found that site long before i found PG and I've sprayed their crazer on a test panel but nevery actually put it on anything. Someday.... stringkilla
OK Let's not obsess over the metal chrome issue, but look at the Crazer stuff. Man if thats not a mad crazy easy effect to have, I just don't know. Yeak and what about that psa metal material, could be used as a great material for inlay effects and logo's. Use the mind, this is the weapon of imagineering. Think outside the box. Edited March 17, 2006 by stringkilla

I wonder how long until we see a GOTM entry with that "Crazer" effect
