Faulty Distortion Chip?

The Fatalities

Recommended Posts

Today i recieved my Digitech Death Metal single effects pedal and opened up

the pedal to where the battery goes. The is a hole where you can see the chip

and it its clearly written DIGITECH GRUNGE (DGR).

Is this the wrong chip and have i been scammed? i bought it for rather cheap

AU $73

maybe. maybe not, they possibly use the same chip in both pedals and just change the components that make up the EQ and add some clipping diodes to get a differant sound. You can build a lot of differant pedals arround the same chip so I would guess that Digitech have econamised on the number of chips they have to buy and just used the same one for more than one pedal.

However, they might have just screwed up at the factory.

Plug it in and see if you like it! if you do use it if you don't send it back!

I imagine they use the same PC board for several of those pedals and like Robert stated just change some key componets to alter the basic tone and gain characteristics. We have many of those pedals for testing. The best one we have come across is the Line6 Uber Metal.

What has the Death Metal ranked in as?

We like the low/mid/high tone controls but the lack of a gain control just makes it very limited.

Manufacturers are famous for using the same boards for a similar range of products. You can take apart a Morley Wah pedal and the board will be the same as any other Morley vah-variation. The difference is what parts are actually placed on the boards.
