barrcchhk Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Hey everybody. I am considering buying a cheap guitar off ebay, and then doing a Van Halen paint job on it. I would then upgrade pickups, etc. If anyone could help on how to do a paint job, stripping paint, sealer coat, it would be much appreciated. By the way, i have never done a paint job before, and dont know all that much about it. Thanks for your time. Here is the guitar i was thinking of purchasing: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BONPLAY-HEAVY-METAL...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Duff Beer Man Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 go to the tutorials section and read pretty much everything, then use the search function. Many of the guys round here have done van halen style finishes and have posted walk throughs and this has been covered 10619691698698719 times. Quote
Racer X Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Just quickly: If the guitar's finish is good, don't strip it, unless you are doing a trans finish. So long as the original finish is solid, stripping is reallt unnecessary, and tedious. Give the original finish a good scuff sand, and go from there. Then, you don't have to worry about grain filling, and whatnot, either. Quote
