shawnm26
I'm building a 25.5 scale completly hollow chambered guitar the top and bottom are maple the chamber is mahogany its going to be flat on the top not arched. I'm going to use a common x bracing on the back the top i'm not 100% sure yet i've seen some parallel bracing but i'll probably brace it like the back. What i'm curious about is with the chamber I went to hollow it last night and my Dad brought up th sides which I hadn't really thought about I was going to keep it about 3/4 in around but hadn't thought about bracing it should i get some kerfed lining or would it be strong enough at 3/4" to an 1" around? Mattia
Basic X or even ladder bracing should be more than fine if you keep the top and back about 5-6mm (1/4 or a hair under) thick. Won't be much of an acoustic, of course, but I'm assuming you planned on that. As for sides, 1/2" thick solid wood is more than enough support and strength. I tend to stay between 1/2" and 5/8" thick on my semis. Never had problems. Acoustics get away with less than 1/8"+kerfed linings because it's bent wood, which is stronger than cutting it out of a solid piece (grain's continuous). shawnm26
Thanks alot. I thought that I have a chambered hollow body and it didn't seem to have any bracings on the side for which i could tell. My Dad has built planes and such so when he suggests somthing I tend to listen and atleast check it out before I progress any further. Yeah I knew it wouldn't be much of an acoustic it's about 2" thick and the top and bottom are 1/4 apiece. I have a set of Schaller golden 50's to go in I'm really starting to get anxious to get it done.
