One Of My Upcoming Paint Schemes

Recommended Posts

Just a design idea (artwork, not body) that I wanted to get some opinions on hehe. Obviously the body shape is a JEM (my favorite body style) Did some playing around with photoshop's layers to see different looks for it. Let me know what you think.

The headstock letters is my initials. It's kind of funny because I work with Radioactive material all the time and we always call it RAM for short.

i like it but i think it looks cool like a relic, the way it looks with just the mockup looks as if the edes are all banged up and stuff and i think that really adds to the industrial theme, when's the last time you saw a shiny new forklift? exactly.

Interesting idea, dude. I know EXACTLY what you mean, concerning the phrase "RAM". However, isn't the trifoil meant to be in magenta, instead of red? Just an observation.

hehe That sign is magenta.. it's a graphic I found online. Beats getting one from work copied LOL

I'm thinking of changing it to a "Radioactive Material" sign.. Basically just changing the words on the bottom.

Also, based on your statement, I'm assuming your either a nuke or previous nuke. With that in mind, I showed this graphic to my engineer..... He started banging his head against the wall.. Especially because I'm the LELT

LOL. Yeah. Let's just say that, if I had a guitar like that, and I wished to keep it, I shouldn't take it within 100 yards of work. Otherwise, it'd be bagged up, and surveyed in NO TIME!

Must just be how the picture came out. Looks like red, from where I sit. Hmm. Hey, if you build it, are you gonna have a set of meters on ya, as well as some dosimetry? Cause that baby will be SCREAMING! :D

Dude! That diamond plate one is SWEEEEET! I'd go with THAT! And don't do a thing with the headstock. Leave it the way it is, stock. I hate when people screw with the headstocks too much. Definitely looks like a custom factory job, that way. And the diamond adds to the industrial look. Definitely looks like my workplace, now!!! :D

Quick update on this one. While I haven't completed decided on the paint scheme for this one, I have started work on the fretboard.

The fretboard is a basic rosewood, 24fret blah blah... The cool part is, instead of the usual dots, I bought a pack of gold MOP dots and cut them into radiation trifoils. Those have been inlaid into the fretboard already. I'll post some pics in the next day or so in the Work in Progress section.

Just wanted to let y'all know this one hasn't died hehe.

I like this one the best. Also, you could make the top a multiple piece laminate to replicate the ribs of one of those 50 Gallon Drums that everyone associates with toxic waste. And you could paint some glow-in-the-dark, flourecent drips oozing down the side. Also, though I'm very unfamiliar with your profession, if there were some type af technical device that you guys use, a meter of some sort, that you could incorporate into the design as a functional aspect of the guitar, I think that would enhance the overall feel of the Radioactivityness. Like some kind of analog meter that read resistance or something

Anyway, it looks great. Cant wait to see how it turns out. :D

The diamond plate version has the most character IMO. Very paintable. I have done diamond plate in the past and it is pretty convincing. It would be fun to do this one. Here is a painted version of diamond plate on a carbon fiber/kevlar bicycle racing disk.

I definitely like the idea of using the diamond plate but I don't have the first clue on how to paint it.. What I would end up doing at this point is making a huge graphic and having it printed at a sign store for gluing onto the body. hehe

Printing the graphic is one way to get it on there. I am not a big fan of the decal route but some of them are cool. The trick is to get it printed in high enough resolution that you do not see dots. If you can get it done on a Gerber Edge it would be high res.

As far as painting the plate it is not to difficult. Create a stancil with the shapes cut it it and add the correct shading to look raised up.

I'm gonna be a pedantic a**hole, and point out that the radiation warning graphics' been changed now, so your design is out of date :D

It looks like this:

Apparantly the old one looked like a propeller :D

(I suppose yours looks old and weathered enough to be from the pre-change period)
