mikhailgtrski Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 I'm making some rosewood pickup rings, tuner buttons, etc. How would you finish these? I was thinking I would just sand/polish with fine micromesh and maybe apply some fingerboard conditioning oil. Good enough, or should I look at something like Tru-oil or shellac? Thanks for your input. Mike Quote
Setch Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 I tend to wipe them over with CA then sand them to 600. Soemtimes I'll hit them with a little thinned plastic coating wiped on with a rag. Quote
thegarehanman Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Stewmac's vinyl sealer gives a durable, flat finish when used alone. It also dries quickly and seems to go well under most clear coats. As you can tell, I love it. peace, russ Quote
guitarchump Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Sorry for hyjacking this thread but can you use stewmac vinyl sealer over dyed wood then go strait to clear, or is it only good to use with solid colours? Quote
mikhailgtrski Posted June 4, 2006 Author Report Posted June 4, 2006 Sorry for hyjacking this thread but can you use stewmac vinyl sealer over dyed wood then go strait to clear, or is it only good to use with solid colours? Yes. It's actually Behlen's, and it is designed to be used as a base for their stringed instrument lacquer. Some guys here prefer to skip the sealer and go straight to the clearcoat. Quote
