Cjr
I ordered some gibson SG electronics and they came with wire that has this strange cage thing around it I was just wondering what it is and how do I solder the wire without it attaching to the cage also? Thanks

JoeAArthur
Do you mean "braided wire" where it looks like a bunch of individual wire strands braided along the outside of the wire? If so, the "cage" is a shield ala faraday. I believe SD pickups use a foil shield inside the outer plastic insulation - that bare wire, the un-insulated and un-colored one is the ground that contacts the inside foil. Just ground it. Primal
Braided wire does help with the reduction of hum, probably for the very same reason a Faraday cage does.
