Buying A New Bands Saw

Recommended Posts

I got my 14" Ridgid at the Home Depot. Can't beat $350 & 10% off for the floor model, PLUS they did all the work to get it into my truck. :D It's the biggest bandsaw they sell in the store, but I believe you can get bandsaws anywhere online.

Rikon 18" at Woodcraft ($900 for the floor model). Roller bearings, 1-1/4" wide blade capacity, solid welds, easy to tune up. I can resaw tops up to 12" wide (just did 9" rock maple for 2 Les Pauls yesterday). 220V was a challenge, blades are a bit spendy, but I really wanted bomber resaw capability and I am not disappointed.

Amazon.com is a great place to buy tools as well after you have done your research and made a choice. ALOT of thier tools ship free. I bought a 600 lb. Delta Table saw and had it drop shipped to my garage FREE, that and not paying tax I ended up paying nearly $500 less than I could have bought it locally. They also carry most brands including Grizzly, Jet, Delta, etc.

Erik,

What blades do you run? I used to run Timberwolf for my Hard Maple, Coco, Ebony and such, but I ran a a bit of Ebony through with my Woodslicer recently. Man it was smooth and I didn't cook the blade, actually it didn't seem to dull it at all. I have a new level of respect for Woodslicer blades. They stay sharp on very hard woods, run cool, and only take less than a 1/16" of material per cut (not to mention blades scratches are slight, making surfacing much less wasteful and speedy). Darn good blades IMO.

Peace,Rich
