al heeley
I'm guess I'm being a bit lazy, but I have these spare 250k pots I'd like to use up in the new build rather than have to go buy some more 500k pots. The guitar is the mojo#2 I've been working on, solid mahogany body, single cut with maple cap. Pickups are GFS hot hex overwound humbuckers. As far as I know, 500k's are usually used for HB's on les paul/prs-type guitars as they don't muddy the already bassy tone as much, and 250k's are normally the pot of choice for calming the bright twangy single coil strats and teles. I guess that's the accepted wisdom. Would I be ok sticking with the 250k's for my new guitar or will it come out too bassy without enough top end? Waddaya think? Am I just being lazy? crafty
I think you'll be fine, especially on overwound humbuckers. I used the stock 250k controls on my Strat when I had a humbucker in the bridge and it was still perfectly playable.
Southpa
You can also adjust the guitar's tonal range by experimenting with different capacitor values.
