demetan Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 Hello, I want to buy a soprano electric guitar (i.e. a guitar tuned one octave up). Since no firm build this kind o f thinks, I've decided to build it myself. My questions are the following : - Can we just change the neck of an ordinary guitar ? - If yes, Who build soprano neck ? Thanks !! Quote
krazyderek Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 couldn't you use an ordinary guitar and a set of really really light strings?, like the ligther half of a set of 12 string's...? Quote
daveq Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 couldn't you use an ordinary guitar and a set of really really light strings?, like the ligther half of a set of 12 string's I'd be amazed if that worked. Check this site out. It may help in design. String Tension Calculator Quote
DaveK Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 The lighter half of 12 string Idea should work I remember an article with Reb Beach whare he did that exact thing...sounded kinda cool! Calibration could be a pain, but I think it would work! Dave K Quote
syxxstring Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 using the lite half of a 12 set would be nashville tuning, i think. From what I've read its common to use all light gauge strings in nashville sesions tuned so your low and high e's are in the same octive. is that what you want or do you want a 12 inch scale neck? daveq Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 I didn't think that was the intention. I thought he was going for everything up a full octave. I don't see how using the 12's on the bottom on a standard neck solves all of the issues. Quote
demetan Posted September 25, 2003 Author Report Posted September 25, 2003 I know that robin guitar did one see http://www.robinguitars.com/vintage_pics.htm My aim is the have something similar. But taking very light string is not stupid I'll try Quote
demetan Posted September 25, 2003 Author Report Posted September 25, 2003 sorry i've forgotten tho say that on the page http://www.robinguitars.com/vintage_pics.htm You should click on page catalog 1983 and then click on the fourth image. on the image, you'll see the octave guitare Quote
krazyderek Posted September 26, 2003 Report Posted September 26, 2003 lol it's a wee little guitar!!!!!! sorry i thought you meant just get a guitar strung like nashville style.... for that i don't think you can use a regular body with a certain neck you're going to have to make the hole thing, you need the right body and neck combo otherwise it just don't work Quote
