I Need A Good Tutorial On Stain Finishing Maple

My supplies arrived today from StewMac and I'm ready to go. I'd like to do a red stain with the black underneath as I've seen described. What grits do I sand to and when? When do I raise the grain? What should my dye mix be? should I fill the mahogany graing first? Do I do all the routing and hole drilling first? I could use a bit of direction.
