verhoevenc Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I was just wondering it it's best to have the rift grain orientation in one configuration in a laminate neck or the other? Which would be better to have: A- The grain pointing to the center? B- The Grain acting as a triangular truss? This picture shows the two configurations you can have a laminate neck laid out (neck has two sides of rift sawn wood and a center that's quartered), the trans red represents the carve of the back of the neck. toddler68 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I think I would lean towards B, but I doubt it matters all that much. The quartersawn center laminate should provide sufficient strength. Anyone else care to chime in? Quote
verhoevenc Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Posted September 22, 2006 Oh, I just drew in the center quartered. I'm talking necks in gernal, with or without a quartered center. I don't have a specific neck that lookws just like that. I've talking for ALL rift lam. necks. Chris Quote
fryovanni Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 "A" would probably look better and if you taper a bit you would see less runout on the sides. Did I guess correctly??? Peace,Rich. Quote
Setch Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Yeah - A, for the reasons given by Rich. Quote
