Buzz Feiten Tuning System...

Does anybody have any experience with the Buzz Feiten tuning system? I was reading about it last night, and I noticed that all the autorized dealers that charged $130+ for it claimed it was the best thing ever, and had lots of "if Steve Vai likes it, so should you!"

Buuuut, when I started looking at personal pages from non dealers, suddenly everybody was saying it wasnt that great, and in fact, less flexible when changing string guages and brands. I've heard of guitar shops avoiding buying guitars with this system!

Anybody out there whos had any personal experience with Mr. Feiten's innovation?

I have 2 Tom Andersons, 1 with the Feiten System & 1 without.

I am selling the one without it!

In my opinion, I think it is a HUGE differance!

I know others that don't...

Interestingly, those who I have tlked to that don't see a real difference have not spent a lot of time playing a guitar with the system.

it's more noticable if you play alot of open chords, the further up the neck you go the more you'll notice that some notes aren't sharp conparted to a normal guitar. I found a couple google threads with info on the pattent it's self if you'd like to try it out on one of your guitars before you buy a guitar with the system

here's the link to the pattent page

i've found it to be great, but i wasn't thrilled with the idea of having to find a luthier who understood it enough to perform maintenance on it. it is a very precise and mythodical process to get every part of the guitar in perfect intonation. it's more than funny shaped frets. i noticed when i started to level out frets, and or when a fret would get a dent or ware spot, i lost my effect. like i said it is great, but make sure you know someone who can service it well. for playability and feel i've found no difference, but in sound, it is a major improvement. i say try one out for a while, then make a decision.

Huh...

Judging from the pattent info, its more or less a matter of moving the nut up a tad, and intonateing either a hare sharp or flat depending on the string/octive... Get a good tuner and ruler, and you're set! :DB)

I've played one guitar, in a shop, that had the BF system on it. I really liked it. What was it, a Westone or something. I don't recall.

It was a really weird feeling to have the guitar sound so in tune.

As for a luthier not understanding it, I'd find another luthier. :D It's a compensating nut. They should understand that. It works on the same priciple as the compensating bridge.

Could I make one? Not without a drawing or some measurements to go by. What me ears heard is worth it, IMO.
