vpcnk Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 i'm trying to change the humbuckers and pots on my gibson hawk. i decided not to do it myself and give it to a pro. but i might have to buy the humbuckers and pots seperately - before/when i take it to the pro. i see that there are short and long shaft pots. and also humbuckers with different wire connection configurations. without opening the guitar, is it possible to know what type of pot and humbucker the guitar uses? appreciate the feedback. CrazyManAndy Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 'Buckers generally have 500k pots, so I'm pretty sure that is the case. I don't see why they would be long shaft on this guitar, so I'm assuming they're just common pots. Might want to wait for someone else to chime in though, just to be sure. CMA Quote
spazzyone Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) Are you sure you have full size humbuckers? i only ask because the only thing i can find on them shows they have P90's or slanted humbuckers. in which case you would have to modify the guitar to put in standard humbuckers can you post a pic of it? as far as pots if they are 300k which are not used much then why not keep them? or maybe have the pickup modified Edited September 28, 2006 by spazzyone Quote
vpcnk Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 Are you sure you have full size humbuckers? i only ask because the only thing i can find on them shows they have P90's or slanted humbuckers. the gibson nighthawk comes with a mini-humbucker and a slanted humbucker (and on the three pickup model, with a single coil as well). the blueshawk comes with "blues 90s" - similar to p90s i guess. but the hawk comes with two regular 490 humbuckers. this is the one i bought on ebay recently : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1 'Buckers generally have 500k pots, so I'm pretty sure that is the case. Primal Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 If the pro you take it to really is a pro, he should be able to tell you exactly what you need. Quote
CrazyManAndy Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Regular pots have short shafts (compared to long shaft pots). http://www.guitarelectronics.com/category/...s.2controlpots/ Look at the top two items. The long shaft pots are really only used on thick carved tops, such as Les Pauls. That guitar is not topped so I am thinking it has normal pots. If you're still not satisfied, the best thing to do would be to just take to that guy and have him tell you what you need. CMA Quote
