NJD
I’ve read on the data sheet for Rustins Plastic coating not to use Sanding Sealers with it, but I want to produce faux binding. Would it be acceptable to thin down some of the Plastic coating and use this instead of sanding sealer to ‘seal’ the sides of my maple prior to staining the top PRS Style? Alternatively the write-up on the manufaterer’s website for this stuff: Zinsser SealCoat™ Sanding Sealer boasts quite openly that it is compatible with EVERYTHING… Does anyone have any experience, or advice that may shed some light on my situation? Many Thanks Nathan
Setch
You can just use neat plastic coating to seal the binding, or a decent dewaxed shellac.
WezV
IIRC the Rustins advice is that 'you do not need a sanding sealer' rather than 'dont use a sanding sealer'. We have been using shellac as a sealer.
al heeley
Thats right Wez, you don't need it as the Rustins penetrates and seals with a good build-up and doesn't all get sucked in to a porous wood..
Prostheta
What is the compatibility and finishing like for Rustin's Plastic Coating on woods with open pores like Paduak?
