fyb
I'm going to attempt a strat-style neck and I have an unprofiled Stewmac fretboard and a rectangular neck blank. I'm not sure of the best way to cut the sides of the neck to get the proper taper/profile from the nut to the bottom/21st fret area. What do you recommend? Thanks! egdeltar
Bandsaw or any saw for that matter. Then use rasps and spokeshaves for the back of the neck.
verhoevenc
Make a neck template by double taping down some straight wood at the correct taper on some MDF, then bearing follow the straight wood, and voila, neck template. Then use that on the neck wood with the bearing bit again. Chris ps: this text-tutorial I just put up on making body and neck templates may help you: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=26121 Chris
al heeley
I was recommended a long straight edge clamped to teh top of the blank, and a top-bearing router bit.
Mattia
I use an old-fashioned hand plane to trim the fingerboard to size, glue it in place, and carve down to it by hand with rasps and scrapers.
