sockdog Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 I'm refinishing a Japanese strat. I have it sanded to bare wood(w/150 grit sp so far). I'm not sure what kind of wood it is but it feels pretty heavy. I was planning on painting it white blonde & clear coating it w/ aerosol spray cans from guitar re-ranch. I wouldn't mind if it had a vintage look to it. But after reading some of the info on this page I'm a little unsure. I don't have spray guns or a better spray area than my garage & it's about 40 - 65 degrees outside lately. Can I get a good result this way? Or should I just pay someone to do it & what do people who refinish guitars charge. Quote
anderekel Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 I've heard good things about re-ranch paints. As far as the temp. go's look at the paint instructions, they usually put good painting temps on. Good luck and post pics when your done. Quote
ryanb Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 You certainly can do a white blonde finish with spray cans fairly well, but I would recommend you wait for warmer temperatures. Check the specs for your finish to be sure, but most really need higher temps. Just don't use space heaters or something like that, as most paints (especially lacquer) can be very flammable. Quote
sockdog Posted October 27, 2006 Author Report Posted October 27, 2006 I had another thought. Since the blonde offered by Guitar ReRanch is pretty yellow (I think I've figured out the color I want is WHITE Blonde), & since I want a lot of the wood grain to show, can I just go buy white stain at home depot or somewhere, & the clear coat over the stain?
