daveq Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I'm planning a guitar with a mahagony body & maple top. I was planning on using a Schaller Floyd in it but I'm not sure now. I'd like the guitar to be able to be used for blues/hard rock/blah blah blah... Something versatile. I know there are lots of floyd haters out there nowadays (seems to be the hip thing now?) but I'd like some honest opinions if possible. I looked at the mannmade PRS style trems and choked at the price. Stewmac sells similar bridges: Wilkinson/Gotoh Vintage style Tremolo Bridge and Wilkinson/Gotoh Tremolo Bridge Does anyone know much about these or other similar bridges? Are they any good? Easy to install? Would I need a neck angle? Thanks, Dave Quote
Brian Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I've played a simular one in an Agile guitar before. Good bridge but I'll let some of the real players around here chime in Quote
zandro Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I have absolutely no expertise in .. well, pretty much anything, so feel free to totally ignore this opinion. But have you checked out the Hipshot trems? I've read good things about them - particularly, instead of a knife edge, they pivot on bearings so they're supposed to be really smooth and help maintain stability. I'd think one of those plus some locking tuners might give you some pretty good whammy capabilities without being as cumbersome as a Floyd. Just my $.02. Quote
mcbmoreno Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I went with a hipshot myself. I like it a lot. I special odered it from guitar center for $70 which was ten dollars less than anywhere else. The special order took a while (3-4 weeks) but when your poor its worth waiting. Quote
Roli Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Golden Gate forever. One of the best bridges out there. Quote
daveq Posted October 1, 2003 Author Report Posted October 1, 2003 I'll look into the hipshot a little more. Roli, can you give me any more info on that golden gate? All I'm getting on google is articles with the golden gate of San Fran with some guitar crap thrown in. Is the benefit to the hipshot or wilkinson the way it attaches to the body? Other than that, I don't see why they would be much better than a Schaller or other floyd licensed bridge? Quote
krazyderek Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 try the advanced search where you can remove words like san fransisco from the search... here's what i got when i did http://www.google.ca/search?as_q=golden+ga...ch=&safe=images Quote
krazyderek Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 well unless the golden gate is an accoustic bridge then ignore what i just said i didn't really read thru the results sorry Quote
Guitarfrenzy Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I think Roli was joking with ya.. but maybe not.. lol Quote

Brian Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Funny though cause Golden Gate is the Importer for Saga in the USA and they do sell the trems seperate Quote
Kevan Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Man oh man, do I want to put up a huge post here...revolutionizing the guitar world...while making DaveQ a happy camper (and millions of other players/owners/builders)... .....but I can't. Not yet. Soon. I promise. Quote
