New Here, Have Many Q's For My First Project...

Hello! I have been browsing these forums for a while now.

I have taken on building my 1st project, but not from scratch.

I bought a Korina neckthru with "S" style "wings" for the body.

I'll need some finishing tip as I want to sunburst it soon.

here are the specs:

"S" style neckthru with all gold hardware

12" radius "chunky C" profile neck,

Sperzel Lockers,

Wilkinson Vintage style trem

Black 3 ply pickguard

Stagger pole alcino pickups,

cream covers and knobs

3-3way mini toggles instead of a 5 way (or a 3 way) wired individually to each pickup, has IN phase, Out of phase and OFF positons for all 3.

It came with a rather large rear cavity, but I like a pickguard. I had to rout out the body throught the top a bit for the pots and the toggles (which are located where the 5 way would be anyway), so it's hollow there. I am looking into getting a chunk of korina to fill the rear cavity up and rout it similiar to what the strat bodies are like, and glue it in tight if I can get teh shape down... to refill the loss of any potential sustain I have lost ...

All I am waiting on now is straplocks, gold pickguard screws, and I'm going to try a EARVANA nut. ANyone have any experiences with an EARVANA? If I don;t like it, I'll use a bone or a graphite...

What leads you to the conclusion the hollow cavity is going to cause a loss of sustain? That looks like a nice guitar :D . Should be a lot of fun.

Maybe lack of experience? (shrug)...

This is my first go at building one...

I dunno... to me, a neckthru has always brung more sustain because of the lack of any joint, so the tone rings thru the entire body... my thinking is, the cavity hole, if I fill it, would solidify the now "missing" part of the body that is hogged out....

This unit was never designed for a standard style pickguard.... filling the cavity and routing it back out would get rid of the hollow portion as the cavity is rather large...
