Rowdy Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 I recently found an OEM EARVANA as you might have read and seen pics of over the last few days.. (25.5 scale fender style neck, 12" radius... It was pointed out after I filed it to fit the OEM slot that those actually need to be moved towards the 1st fret a bit, but no mention of how far... After reading, I found the groove needed to be moved 3-3/32" forward (towards 1st fret)... So my idea is this... whats stopping me from (besides lack of ablility/experience, first build) from taking my OEM earvana, filing more fromt the backside, so it's 3-32" thick, and gluing it to another graph blank in the existing nut groove, so it has the overhang table thingy on the fretboard like the retro-fit, but 3-32" forward? The OEM just looks better to me. Og course the nut blank piece would have to be grooved for the strings... can ya glue even graph material together? So... anyone have any input? Brain storming here.. really dont want to groove the neck, and the retro fit looks like crap (to me) If I had calipers, more experience, I certainly can do it all out of 2 pieces of bone blanks and it would be ---bone and look decent too, right? I also have no way to measure 3-32".... If I could replicat teh earvana OEM piece to bone... then a bone blank would be better.. but I am not that skilled... Quote

Better idea.... get the EARVANA LSR roller nut piece as its a dropin. file it for the 12" radius overhang, shim it if needed, send the whole thing (nut only) to a luthier to replicate in bone... That work? Edited November 6, 2006 by Rowdy Quote
