Paul Marossy Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 (edited) Anyone here ever convert a fretted electric guitar to a fretless? I just did this, and I'm basically happy with the sound, but I think there's room for improvement on the action. Does the angle of the neck need to be modified when you do this? My main problem is on the high E and B strings, it doesn't have that zippy sound like the roundwound strings have because the strings are too low to the fretboard between where my finger is and the bridge. If I raise the action to compensate, the action gets to high to play comfortably. This "problem" is mainly from about the 10th fret up on those two strings. Do I need to radius the fretboard more, like a violin? Anyone have some tips on this?! Edited November 10, 2006 by Paul Marossy Quote
scottyd Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Did you redo the nut? with a fretless the string slots will need to be lower. THat could explain why the action is off. Quote
Paul Marossy Posted November 11, 2006 Author Report Posted November 11, 2006 Hmm... hadn't done that. I'll give that a try and report back. Quote
