bob01077 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Hey guys great board, I hope to spend some valuable time here. I was just wondering how critical wood selection is for filling a routed out trem cavity. The project guitar is a Ibanez RG Basswood body. I am just hoping to find a wood local and didn't know if a pine or poplar would be horrible choice. Thanks in advance. Quote
Nitefly SA Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Would you be sanding it flush and refinishing it to look like stock or are you just filling the cavity then putting on the trem cover again? Quote

Actually what I'm looking at doing is filling in a Floyd route and Re-routing for a kahler Hybrid. I would probibly finish the back sanded rather than jut reinstalling the cover but it would be painted. My main concern would be sonic quality. Thanks Again Quote
Robert_the_damned Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I've back filled a strat trem cavity with pine before it worked fairly well. Obviously it didn't add to the tone of the guitar but it didn't degrade it either. If you have the option to use poplar over pine I'd go for it as its more a 'tonewood' than pine! Quote

Thanks for the input. I think I will go with the Poplar if I can't track down any basswood locally. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Quote
