prauny
Ive seen that people recomend using CA glue as a drop fill on dented or chipped guitars. I would like to know if this would give good results on a solid coloured paint, say, solid black for example. Would it look like new, or is it just a patch job repair? Racer X
Is the solid black still there, in the dent? I've done similar jobs, and so long as you level it, properly, afterwards, so as to blend it into the original finish, I'd say it should come out, fine. I'd be interested if someone else has had experiences telling otherwise.
Southpa
It blends well with existing lacquer, but not so well with polyurethane finishes.
prauny
The black is still there. Its more of a dent/chip. It is Polyurethane though, so i may just leave it if its not going to look nice once its done.
Doeringer
It is either a dent or a chip. If it is a chip you need black poly. A dent you can drop fill and carefully sand flush and polish. CA works best with lacquer but I have had reasonable success filling poly. But it is still noticable up close. prauny
I was trying to say that it is a chip, but still has the black poly in it at the bottom. Thats what i meant by dent/chip. Sorry for the confusion. Thing is, its under the picguard on my les paul copy, so its not urgent. But i preffer it without the picguard, so it would be nice to repair it. Where can i get me some black poly? Ive only ever seen clear poly for sale. Bear in mind im in the UK here.
Doeringer
Well if that is the case, then a clear should work, depending on how invisible you want it to be. I have only done this on a couple with decent results, but they were on cheaper guitars where the customer wanted it to look 'better' but was not paying for perfection. Hopefully a finishing expert can chime in... let us know how it turns out.
