I know its called "lime" but that is still a very misleading name for basswood. When I think "lime" I envision the tree bearing the citrus fruit, but there is no relation to that whatsoever. I was in the local guitar shop and the proprietor was talking to one of his customers about this. The guy said basswood was actually also called swamp ash! :D I didn't speak up at the time but DID do some research when I got home. Basswood is from the Linden tree also called whitewood and yes, also called lime , but I don't know why. So its true origin is Linden aka Tilia sp. . There are about 20 or more species of Linden , 6 found in N. America and only 1 in canada.

There's plenty of US sellers of American Basswood that would be willing to ship to the UK, myself included. Basswood is fairly light and inexpensive, so that would offset some of the shipping costs (that and if you're not in any hurry, then you can use a slower and cheaper shipping rate).

My wood supplier sells lime if you still want that - he is really cheap. http://scottish-hardwoods.com/

He's not really a guitar specialist, but he has a big store of the common scottish hardwoods, which if you ask for a nice piece, he'll pick out a section without knots etc. I live 10 miles from him so I just drive along, but he has a pretty quick postal service. He has a 100% positive rating on his ebay shop.

Here's an example of his olive ash:

I should probably put his address in the suppliers section?

David Dyke's had 4 or 5 Basswood 1pc blanks on the shelf 3 or 4 weeks ago and a ton of Alder if you don't mind 2pc as i think i took the last 1pc although Wayne showed me a stock of slabbed Alder that was at that time un-cut.
