thaetviking Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I have a model four Charvel with a HSS pickup selection. I am looking a replacing all three pickups but have a question regarding the single coils. Do I need to worry about the polarity for the single coils? What would someone suggest for the polarity of the neck and the middle position? Quote
al heeley Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 do you fancy going for a reverse-wound centre s/c for a out-of-phase stratty quack? Quote

What would someone suggest for the polarity of the neck and the middle position? If you match the polarity of the neck pickup and bridge pickups, and then put the middle pickup out of phase, when you have the selector set to run both the neck and middle pickups together, they will act like a humbucker (i.e) noise cancelling. At least, that's the way my strat was wired. I'm not sure about how the bridge humbucker and the single coil in the middle position would interact, though. I've only wired a few guitars. Hope this helps. Quote

No I am just wondering about the ploarity for the middle and the neck pickup with a humbucker. Does it matter? Is there a preferrable way to do this? I have never bought pickpus before and I need advice. Quote
Robert_the_damned Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 as a humbucker has both a north and a south magnetic pole it doesn't matter if you combine it with a north pole or a south pole it'll sound the same. I'd get an RP/RW pickup for the middle possition so that you get humbucking inbetween possition with both the single coils. Quote
