i did it with a round (convex) jewlers file, on an old licensed floyd, but the more you take off the closer the bridge gets to the nut. I ended up adjusting all the saddles back to correct the intonation afterwards, the low e saddle hadto be moddified in so that the fine tuner on the saddle could still operate correctly, so be very conservative if you do attempt to sharpen the knife edges. But i recomend you just get a new base better base plate, or whole new brdige if they're really bad.

Also bear in mind, that the frame (and thus the knife edges, if not of removable type) of some tremolos are only surface hardened. So if you file too much away, you will probably end up with your knives beeing from soft metal. Supposed you have an original Floyd, it shouldn't be the case, though. Jeweller's file certainly works as does a Dremel.

He's right, if you take too much off youll end up with really soft knife edges which will dull very fast. Thats why I only use Schaller Floyds and Ibanez Edge trems. They have Hardened inserts
