Drizzle Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 Hey guy's First time posting on the forum but have been visiting for awhile and I must say some of you really know your stuff A+. My question is I just got a new guitar with a locking nut that doesn’t have the bolts go through the neck is this better or worse than if it had the bolts going through? The main answers I'm looking for are the locking nut as effective? Will the neck not break as easy because it doesn’t have the bolts going through the neck I know guitar with locking nuts are susceptible to breaking in this particular area. Any help would be great Quote
ryanb Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 Better. The top-mount design is just as effective but it doesn't require the bolt holes through the neck, so it is considerably stronger than the through-mount design. Quote
Drizzle Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 Thanks guys I figured it was stronger but thought I would ask just incase the bolt on vershion was better. Also thanks for the quick replys Quote
Drizzle Posted December 10, 2006 Author Report Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks Alex I hate to sound stupid but what exactly is a volute? Also any advice on converting from top mount locking nut to the bolt through locking nut would be great. Quote
westhemann Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 alex is probably asleep by now...it's about 2 am in the netherlands a volute is the raised area on some guitar necks behind where the headstock starts and the neck ends...it provides extra "meat" at the weakest point of the neck Quote
