Jester
I have never changed pickups in a guitar (nor wired in the first place) and I'm really confused with all this. My guitar is an Ibanez S 2075FW Prestige. It has h/s/h stock pickups. 5 way switch. One volume and one tone pot. Been reading a lot on wiring, but I still have some questions which weren't answered anywhere. I'm installing EMG-81 to the bridge and EMG-60 to the neck position. I'm leaving the passive single coil in place 'cause I don't like looking at an empty cavity. The instructions strictly say that you should NOT reconnect the ground wire when installing active pickups. Although I don't use the middle pickup all that much, It'd still be nice to have it functioning. I'm guessing it needs the ground wire. So... do I ground it or not?? Don't really want to get shocked. Also... The volume and tone pots are pre wired with this green thingy (some capacitor?) connecting them to each other (also a black wire). The problem is that the 'thingy' is too short. The pots can't stretch far enough from each other to install them. So can I solder a small piece of wire on the 'thingy' to make it longer? Or will it affect it in a bad way? I'm quite embarrassed to be asking such beginner questions here, but one has to start somewhere. To me, building a neck from scratch is much simpler! Thanks for all the help. spazzyone
dont be embarrassed if you need help anyhow considering you dont fully understand electronics leave out the single coil as you cant use passive pickups with active pickups without bypass wiring
Jester
dont be embarrassed if you need help anyhow considering you dont fully understand electronics leave out the single coil as you cant use passive pickups with active pickups without bypass wiring Alright then. I'm gonna leave it unwired. Thanks! What about that 'green thingy' (still don't know what it's called...)? Can I make it longer by soldering some wire to the other end? Would it work? The embarrasment thing, was because as I read through the threads here trying to find some answers, I noticed that there were a lot of threads about about pickup wiring. Some people were fed up with it and kinda pissed about it. This thing: Edited December 14, 2006 by Jester
Jester
No need anymore. Got the answer from another place. Thanks for looking!
Jester
Okay... Is it possible to wire 2 active EMG's to a ibanez 5 way switch (8 lugs in a row)?? The positions would be: 1 Bridge 2 nothing 3 Both 4 nothing 5 Neck I think I read somewhere that those blank spots could harm your amp on really high volumes. If it is alright, how would I go about doing that? I can't find diagram for this sort of thing anywhere.
