Re-wiring Kits

Hi, i am about to make an order online for what will basically be a brand new fingerguard and all thats attatched to it for my stratocaster. I am going to be having a S/S/H (that is, humbucker in the bridge, i dont know which way round the abbreviation thing goes) configuration. And I live in the uk, so i dont really want to order from abroad. Right, with that out of the way...

I am ordering pickups from one site (www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk) and all the plasticky bits from another (www.wdmusic.co.uk). Both sites sell re-wiring kits for strats, but one is significantly more expensive than the other. The more expensive one is, funnily, from the more expensive shop (wdmusic.com), so i dont know whether this hike in price is just because of the shop, or because the stuff is actually better quality. If im spending all this rediculous amount of money on pickups and kit, i want the best electronics.

The pages for the two kits are:

http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/shop/products.php...p;product=18414

http://www.crazytrainmusic.co.uk/Tone_Pots.html (scroll down a bit)

In your opinions, what do you think? should i go with the cheaper option? i know i would like to! but i also want the best.

(oh, and the pickups are 2 Seymour Duncan SSL 2 Vintage Flat pole for strat single coils, and a Seymour Duncan SH 1 59 Model humbucker, if that has relevance)

WD are traditionally expensive for a lot of what they sell. The one difference i can see from the pages you posted is that WD states that their kit contains CTS pots whereas the other one makes no mention of make. CTS are sort of industry standard for many major manufacturers - perhaps ask Crazytrain if their pots are CTS which i doubt.

The wd one is much better - they have the cts pots, which are really good. No crackles when you turn them. The other pots don't look like cts ones. I've used the switch that the crazy train kit uses and have had problems with the contacts in it. The wd kit, however, uses the same switch used in american fenders and has a much better capacitor. The output socket is also a really good, reliable one. If I were you, I'd be buying the wd kit. One thing to watch with it is that the cts pot shafts have slightly larger diameters to standard pots. This means you either have to drill out your current knobs, or get the ones with the little grub screw.

Thank you for your replies. I'll definitley go with the WD ones.

Well, I was planning on getting a replacement set of strat knobs in black (as opposed to the white ones i have now), though they are out of stock at the moment. But with what you said about the pot shafts, PeteBuchan, I'll have a look at what else is on offer.

The plastic strat type ones will be easy to drill to size. You only really need to remove the splines from the inside of the knob and no more. If you drill slightly too big, you can just push a flat headed screwdriver into the slot in the pot shaft and lever them apart a little until they grip the inside of the knob.
