VesQ Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 The idea is to make angledneck and place bonenut in front of floydnut. At least this should solve the problem of making shelfcut for floyd and I wouldn´t have any worries does fretboard radius match with nut. What do you think ? Stupid idea ? Quote
zeppelinchld Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 ???????????? y would u need a bone nut if u used a floyd nut. try making a diagram, it would help me understand Quote
jsnhavoc Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 It would be so he doesn't have to make a shelf parallel to the fretboard for the locking nut to sit on and screw into. I don't see why this wouldn't work. It could look pretty ugly though. Quote
westhemann Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 it is called a "behind the nut" locking nut...kahler makes them along with others...only thing is that if you lock down a floyd nut like that(it would be lower than the bone nut, because you don't want a shelf)it will pull the strings sharp during clamping...gauranteed tuning nightmare...PLUS then you negate half the purpose of the floyd nut ...which is to keep the strings from hanging up in the nut slots... asking for trouble. i have a better idea...go look at all of the available floyd and liscensed floyd nuts(the nuts work the same, floyd or liscensed,it does not matter like the trem does)...look at ibanez locking nuts as well...ask vwall what radiuses ibanez locking nuts come in...buy the nut with the radius closest towhat you want, match the board to it,and install it...you do not HAVE to put the fingerboard shelf there(although it is easy enough)..you COULD shim under the nut with and leftover ebony or maple or whateve you have laying around...just sand it to the thickness you need and drill through it... i don't see the problem with the shelf though...i just did a shelf on my latest neck, and it was as easy as routing the pickup cavites...and considereably easier than routing for a floyd trem Quote
jsnhavoc Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Wes is right. I didn't think about the locking nut being lower for some reason. You would have to put a shelf anyway. The strings would just be lifted off the floyd nut until you lock them down, and it would be hell to get them in tune not knowing how sharp they are going to be pulled when you lock them down.
