brutas Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Hi, I just found this site and was wondering if anyone had ever used or heard of this company before. They seem less expensive than Stew Mac. Are they still good quality? http://www.stjamesbaytoolco.com/luthier.html Quote
prs man Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I just got done looking at there web site and they look like some nice stuff I might order a couple Violin Maker’s Planes and see what kind of stuff they have Quote
jay5 Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Great find! Might have to give one of those a try. Wonder how good the blades are? Quote
Mattia Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 I know several acoustic guitar builders who reccomend their products very, very warmly. I wouldn't hesitate, personally. Quote
cherokee6 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks for the tip. I acquired an old Stanley block plane (looks like a #65) that I'm having trouble identifying and is missing a part. It looks like I can get it from them! I'd like to see their violin planes; perhaps a cheaper alternative to the Ibex planes?? Quote
ibnaz5150 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Speaking of planes.I landed a # 4 stanley bedrock for 2.00$ at a garage sale last summer! I tuned her up....found out she's worth around a 100.00 beans. Plan on putting a hock blade in it cuz the blade does'nt have too much more room for sharpening. She's an oldie but a goodie for sure Quote
cherokee6 Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 I re-researched the plan I have: It's an earlier model 18 from the 1897 patent. Still, St. James looks as though it has the part I need. Hey, Ibanaz5150, where in Western NY do you hail from? Quote
