Adam Sandler Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I have a Les Paul Custom in Apline White. I bought new in 2003 and it was made in 2002. Lately I have been noticing that the finish has been turning a yellowish color. It rarely if ever sees sunlight. Is this a normal thing to happen to a white guitar? Anything I can do to prevent this from happening further? Anyone have thoughts about refinishing the guitar (value and playability)? Help would gretaly be appreciated. Quote
verhoevenc Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Why? "Aged White" as it's sometimes called is cool. Alot of white does this, namely celluloid pickguards, and nitrolacquer. But I seriously doubt Gibson refinished a guitar from 2002/2003 in nitro? Strange. Who cares though? I've got an acoustic that did the exact same thing and I like it better now. Chris Quote
guitar2005 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Normal. Mine is a 1974 Custom. Originally, it was white. Quote
spazzyone Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Please dont try to stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
cherokee6 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 My olympic white strat does the same thing. It's natural progression. Keeping out of the sunlight just slows it down. As the others said: aged white is cool! Quote
westhemann Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 normal AND considered good...aged white nitro is awesome Quote
erikbojerik Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I'm pretty sure Y2K Customs are still finished in nitro. At least they feel like it to me (as my '83 Custom is). Quote
