RGGR
That Jigsaw bass is fantastic. How do you suppose he did it? Probably water-jet or laser cut. The black can be dyed black epoxy, at least that's my guess.......

Looks like it goes through, so I very much doubt laser or water jet, since neither is suitable for cutting wood that thick, that accurately. Hand cut or CNC routing. Jon
Make a template for a single piece then cut all the pieces to that size - wouldn't be hard at all. Now the accent lines on the other hand, have me stumped.
dh7892
On closer inspection, I can see that the accent lines are not particularly even in thickness. That's what makes me think they are painted on by hand. Or perhaps they are blackened filler as suggested above.
Jon
Hmm, an idea. You could go about it just like binding on the edge of a guitar body. Route off a little bit of the edge and use binding. Then glue all the pieces together to form the body.
dh7892
That was what I first thought he'd done. It goes right through the body, do you get binding material that wide or would you just have to use a thin bit of wood? Also, you would be able to see where it joins up with itself and I couldn't see that anywhere.
Jon
Just do the binding trick on top and bottom and bind away!
dh7892
Yeah but the top is heavily shaped. I'd have thought you would want to do this after gluing the pieces together so you would end up shaping through the binder. Anyway, I seem to have hijacked this thread a but so sorry for that.
