blackie
Hey all, I just bought a 57 RI in black and I am planning on relicing it to a certain extent. I've looked through most of the relic topics and I have gathered a lot of material from all of you which I plan on using... Anyway I know most of you have seen the blackie out there but has anyone seen John mayer's black strat? it's pretty well done. I'd like to create a relic in between the two strats and this is what I plan on doing... 1. Remove the body from the neck 2. Dull the body w/ sandpaper 3. Kiwi brown shoe polish (not too much) on plastic parts 4. scrape edges of body on concrete (to a certain extent) 5. Use materials such as a screwdriver, possibly a belt and a set of car keys to ding parts of the body 6. go over the dings with steel wool So that's pretty much what's going down, but I was just curious in knowing how to remove a big chunk of the body like on the back of the blackie or above the pickguard in mayer's. Should I sand it down if possible? and also some tips or advice that would help me out. Oh and by the way I usually play around 3-4 hrs each night and I go to Mcnally college of music so I do plan on playing the **** out of it.. I just wanna speed up the process a little like most others.. I'd greatly appreciate the help guys! -Danny
