High School Senior Project - Building A Bass

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I'm hoping this is the right place to post this.

I'm a senior in high school and as a final culmination of what we've learned in high school my class has been assigned to do a project. For mine, I've decided to build a solid-body electric bass. One of the aspects of our project is getting someone experienced in the field to mentor it. I live in Walnut Creek, California (bay area). I was curious if any luthiers in my area would be interested in mentoring my project. Mentoring it wouldn't really involve much more than looking at how my instrument was coming along a couple of times.

I would call a local repair shop, they could probably direct you to a local luthier, as its pretty rare(at least in my case) to find one in the phone book.
