Help With Js30ke!

Recommended Posts

My guess is that somewhere on this site there is a tutorial, a previous thread, or both. I cannot offer any other advice as I have never built an instrument with a tremolo or even modified one from fixed bridge to tremolo. Try doing a search and see what you come up with.

Peace...Rog

If you never worked on guitars or touched a router in your life.......I think you will have hard time pulling this off. Some experienced builders on this site even shy away from installing a Floyd.

You need to be able to build some exact templates, do some intrequed routing, etc. Not difficult......but also not easy for newbie.

My advice would be to have it done.

The Shaller licensed Floyd will cost you up to 200$. There are copies available. I can sell you a brand new one for 125$ + shipping but I suggest that you wait till you have the money to get a "real" one.

Regarding the job: I'm assuming that you would like to have the tremolo recessed at the front to be able to bend the notes up and not only dive bombs. This is what is needed:

-Rout a recess at the front

-Rout a square hole all the way thought the body

- Enlarge the through-hole slightly towards the neck from the back

-Rout the spring cavity

-Rout for a spring cavity cover (optional)

-Paint the front recess (optional)

-drill for the bridge posts, the spring claws

- install the post bushings and spring claw, mount the bridge and the springs

- Rout a shelf for the locking nut

- drill through the neck for the fastening bolts (or use a top mounted nut)

- Mount the string pressure bar (or whatever it is called)

After that it is “only” to gat everything together and intonate the guitar and you are ready. Sounds like a lot of time? You bet! Will it cost you? Sure! I would definitely charge you more then the 100$ you were hoping for. Add the cost for the Floyd itself and you will probably get a better deal if you try to find a guitar that has a Floyd from the start
