mleigh86 Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 My neighbor has car airbrush painting equipment and I was going to order auto paint. Does anyone know if I have to use special 'auto'paint with that type of equipment and does anyone know where I can order some cool metallic paint online? Also I wanted to do a sunburst design and ive read about how to do it with cardboard cut out the same shape as the guitar 1/2 inch smaller and evenly elevate above guitar and then spray...but when you go to spray do you spray at an angle or something...more details on this anyone? levelhead86 Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) If you're talking "airbrushing" and not "paint spraying", then the gun you're using should be small, and shaped kinda like a pen (see link): http://www.badgerairbrush.com/airbrush.htm But if you ARE talking about "paint spraying" equipment, like you use to paint a WHOLE car ( http://www.devilbissparts.com/mini/PSH3_150.gif ), then you're looking for a different kinda paint than what you're asking for. They sell ALL that kinda stuff here: http://www.tcpglobal.com/hokpaint/?gclid=C...CFRQxSgodT0dCxw and here http://www.autobodysupply.net/ ; as well as on e-bay, and your local automotive supply store *which your friend with the supplies should know*. As for the masking, you're supposed to spray either straight, or away from the masking, because if you angle toward it, it'll collect underneath the masking and not come out the way you want. Hope I can be of some help. Edited March 8, 2007 by levelhead86 Quote

Depending on the tip size of the airbrush you will reduce differently. Most airbrushes do not spray metallics really well do to the flake causing spitting since the tip size is pretty small. I would recommend using a larger gravity feed gun for painting the large area. For the burst the carboard shield method will or with either the airbrush or big gun. I woud spray from above the carboard to allow the overspray to get under the carboard andcreate the soft edge. I personally would just spray the burst without the shield method using one of my smaller guns that can atomize very well. You can try Coast Airbrush for small quantities of House of Kolor. The are in Cali and ship pretty quick. Edited March 9, 2007 by PaintIt Quote
