Jarick
Okay, so 18 months after I started my refin project, and 15 months after I shelved it from frustration, I'd like to give it another go. I stripped the factory finish off a Gibson Les Paul Studio, screwed up several times, and now I've got a guitar stained black with several layers of crappy Minwax Polycrylic that needs to be removed. I'd like to strip it back to bare wood, grain fill, seal the wood, and spray some Reranch tinted lacquer. I used Citristrip to remove the factory finish...will that work for the Minwax Poly? I've also got a 1200W heat gun. Thinking about trying the Citristrip again but no clue if it's strong enough. Any ideas?
Vinny
The Minwax label on the can should list what product to use. -Vinny
GuitarMan686
I would say sand it off using different grades. start ruff then reduce down until its nice and smooth. I tries stripping a body with chemicals. Sometimes it works and certain spots it wont take. Good luck!
Daniel Sorbera
I stripped a guitar with that exact finish on it using this orange junk that is non-toxic. Just run down to your local homedepot/lowes/hardware place and ask them for a finish stripper for poly.
Southpa
I use Circa 1850 aerosol stripper and a stiff putty knife. It takes a couple applications but eventually you will get it down to where you can sand without too much clogging.
