Hiya people, im looking for a vendor in the UK to supply brightly coloured / flourescent paints.

I dont mind ordering from abroad but it seems that most suppliers wont ship 'chemicals' like paint etc....

if you think of late 80's JEM's and RG's then thats the kind of stuff im looking for !

Thanks in advance.

Firstly i pressume you're going to spray this through a gun and aren't looking for aerosol's ?......if it's the latter then mince down to your local Halfords.

Any automotive paint factors worth their socks will be able to do it for you or if you can't find (or can't be arsed to find) one local there's loads of factors on Ebay and people like Gavin at Nu-agane would be able to help you, just ask them and don't take what they show as all that they do.

Batfink - youre dead right mate, I finished a strat copy in B&Q's finest offering of plasikote flourescent yellow, its OK but not really very professional.... I "minced" down to Movac - a paint supplier to the trade near me and the guy just didnt want to help... in an overly helpful way,,, er if you know what I mean...

I wanted bright colours for spraying with a HVLP gun...

Thanks Wes, I shall check out house of kolor !

1. Watch TCP global they sell reduced HOK paints. What this means is they are already chemically activated and have a very short shelf life. You are best off buying unreduced paint and mixing it yourself. Reduced paints under ideal conditions have a 2-3 week shelf life. I learned this from people who work from HOK.

2. Coast Airbrush. They sell and ship HOK worldwide. They will support and help you. They also are the only ones HOK authorizes to repackage thier paints into smaller containers. www.coastairbrush.com

I have taken airbrushing seriously for about the past year and its part of why I've been around here less.

What I've learned is if you want vibrancy and easy to spray go with House Of Kolor.

Auto Air (createx) is a good second choice but they don't offer a total system so you still have to go with a quality clear. Its waterbased and reduces best with the new auto air reducer. Still wear a paint mask, all water based means is the nasty chemicals are in water not solvent.

Your clear is a huge part of the battle. If you can't spray clear try and find an airbrusher or body shop to clear it for you with a quality clear. Again, House Of Kolor is designed for custom work. Specifically it will support a thicker paint job beneath it and has more UV protection chemically added to it. It also is clearer.

Your Mileage May Vary.

that is a good link,syxxstring...i think i myself will find that useful

and yeah,i have not seen you around here in forever

The other part of not being around was a job change that had me traveling 2 out of every 3 weeks for awhile. Started racing rc's. I took some time off building, life happens.

The other thing I would say about Coast is don't be afraid to call them. They are the most knowledgeable airbrush store on the planet, and maybe beyond. They will repair and rebuild brushes, answer qeustions etc. Dave the owner and his staff love to help.

They are also the place that has a free party for thier customers every year. Free tacos, free bands, vendors and a paint/panel jam. If your into Pinstripping, Jeff Styles and Tom Kelly took the time to show me how to pull a line/hold a brush Thats the equivielant of Steve Vai and Tom Morello stopping by GC to give a coplete noob a lesson. Stop by if your in Anaheim, I drove from Vegas to Anaheim for it.

Thanks Syxx, thats some pretty useful information there mate !

the next time im in the Anaheim area I will call in :D - I think its only about 6000miles from Cambridge :D

seriously though, thanks for the shout, a lot of people are recommending HOK - it seems as though I may not have to go to the US to find a supplier, they have a UK distribution network as I found only last night and I will give that a try http://www.houseofkolor.co.uk/

Also, I was going to clear using a non-isocyanate 2K lacquer - should be compatible but im a bit of a noob with this painting lark - I have a friend who is much more knowledgeable and have to ask him all the time.....

thanks fella's

i tend to get mine from auto paint in st. helens (google it!) the bloke there is very helpful and the prices are reasonable.

S

I've used them too, he was extremely helpful when I was looking for some surf green in an aerosol. I gave him the original GM codes that Fender used, he mixed some up, sprayed a card, posted it to me to check it & then made up the cans when I approved it. Highly recommended....I'd make sure that you get the right company though (St Helens) as I believe that there's another autopaint.
