pariah223
Hello, i am building a telecaster, and i was just curious if there was like a, standard amount your supposed to cut the neck pocket larger if you were planning on painting it and finishing it with a laquer. I am only asking because i have had the trouble in the past of a good fit, turning into a tight or no fit after finishing, and was just curious if its generally known how muych thickness u can expect to get. Thanks
mikhailgtrski
I mask off the neck pocket.
VesQ
I´ve bolted on a handle in the neck pocket to prevent the paint going in there. Doesn´t really answer to your question but there is really no need to paint the neck pocket.
Southpa
It all has to do with the fit. I make sure everything is set up and works perfectly before shooting any finish. That means neck, bridge etc. attached and guitar is strung up and totally playable. If I make a booboo which results in a "roomy" neck pocket then yes, I will try to fill the gaps with finish materials and will mask off just the floor. I've also had more room than just lacquer will fill, not cool. So I resorted to masking the butt of the neck neck and floor of the pocket with tape coated with candle wax then laying epoxy around the sides of the pocket. Insert the neck (squish), clean up squeeze-outs and let it set. Those big gaps are filled nicely.
pariah223
the finish dosnt stick to the handle and then when u remove the handle, peel the paint away with it? i only ask because i have painted cars before, and i know if i leave the masking on too long, and go to pull it off, the finish sometimes comes with it.
