cptbuggernuts Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 hey guys, i'm thinking of replacing the pickguard on my epiphone explorer with checkerplate which is a non-slip, steel surfacing used in industrial areas and i just wanted to know if this would affect the pickups at all Quote
crafty Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Yes. Anything ferrous will affect the sound of the guitar. Quote
cherokee6 Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Besides, won't that stuff scratch the hell out of your hand? Quote
badsnap Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 If you're just going for the look, many people sell very good simulations that are already manufactured to strat shapes and various PU configuations. Some do customs as well. Try Ebay, at least to get an idea of vendors and styles. Peace...Rog Quote
borge Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 i did i the exact thing to a friends guitar (ibanez rx40) with a bit of scrap aluminium from a boat builder. not my sort of thing but it looked good and cut down on noise a tad. was very easy with Al, would be alot harder with stainless steel or sim. cherokee6 Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Try Chandler, they may make what you're looking for. Quote
dude Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 My philosophy is this: If you can get the stuff cheap and you can install it without damaging the guitar (or anything else, like, say, yourself), give it a try. If it sounds bad you can always put your old pickguard back on with pretty much no harm done. Quote
MoCaster Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 I think what you want is aluminum checker plate, the steel stuff would be ridiculously heavy. Quote
borge Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 I think what you want is aluminum checker plate, the steel stuff would be ridiculously heavy. I'd be more worried about how much harder it is to work with Quote
