Making your own neck

my router doesn't have a guide attachement either, i just made a template (or you could use rails) and the correct sized bit, with a 1/2" bearing on the shank.

You can also just grab a board with a straight edge and double stick it (or clamp) it so that the edge of the router base runs along it. Just place the board at 1/2 the router base's dia. away and you'll be good to go!

If you make a template then you'll likely need a bearing bit. If you make a slot in your template like Derek's, make sure it has a bearing - in that case it is extremely dangerous to use a non-bearing type bit (it may generate too much heat and just snap right off).

What kind of truss rod are you installing?
