darkone15 Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 I want to do a psychedelic paint job on some of my guitars, kinda like Clapton's SG or Page's Tele. I was wondering how to go about it. I figure i would just paint right on the finish but i was told by some people i should rough it up with some sand paper so the paint will stick. they then told me to clear coat it but they said to check here for what paint/clear coat cobos will work. so i guess im asking what kind of paint and what kind of clear coat i should use. SwedishLuthier Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Don't know about the pain, but water bourne finishes are pretty forgiving when it comes to compatibility to other finishes. As always try it on scrap first. Quote

Daniel Sorbera Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 shat kind of sand paper shoul i use. Anything around 400 grit will work for roughing up the finish. You can get it in auto supply stores or on the web. Quote

Sorry for all the questions but im a total newb Quote
Daniel Sorbera Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 You shouldn't sand your paint, only the clearcoat that is already on the guitar. Quote
