michaelwithersone Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Does anybody know if it is possible to fit a fender mustang tremelo to a fender strat body. I have a pretty good idea the cavity that this trem requires will need to be sat futher back then the standard fender start trem. Iam hoping that the mustang bridge plate will cover the existing cavity in body that was there for the original start trem. Would I also need a mustang scratch plate to fit this effectively. Many thanks in advance. Mike Quote
crafty Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Why do you want to use the worst designed bridge system Leo Fender ever came up with on the best guitar he ever came up with? Are you some sick masochist or something? Quote
michaelwithersone Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 Having owned and sold a jagstang - iam much inclined to agree - however ive agreed to help someone who desperatley wishes to do this - another concern iam having is that this bridge sits alot higher then a strat bridge - am I right in thinking the action will be ballistically high? WezV Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 making a strat body to fit would probably be the best bet. You can do the appropriate routes and angle the neck pocket slightly do account for the extra height of bridge. Other than that i would be looking at filling in the old trem holes and re-routing for the new bridge and doing a full shim in the neck pocket to sort out neck angle. Thats probably going to need some re-finishing work so i would still rather do it from scratch Quote

I cant admit to have ever filled anything on a guitar before - would this involve using wood filler out of interest? Quote
WezV Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 no, solid wood blocks glued into place with maybe some wood filler around them if needed Quote
crafty Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Also, unless the Strat has a 7.25 radius on the neck too, you're gonna have to either mod the saddles or use a modified Mustang bridge to compensate for the difference in radius. Quote
