Paint Your Own Guitar

Has anyone ever heard of these "paint Your Own Guitar" books? Thay have an ad in Guitar World, i'v seen them on the internet. Has anyone ever used them? Is there anything useful in em?

I strongly suggest you avoid doing any paintjobs with Krylon (or any other spraypaint).

The pics in the book are pretty, but they're not a true representation of what those guitars are going to look like in a very short period of time (I'm talking weeks). Save yourself ALOT of time and frustration and do it right the first time with 2-pac urethane or an instrument grade lacquer.

I have these books and they are very helpful for beginers, and in the books he recommends not using krylon. I used krylon on 2 guitars anyway and they turned out fine.

he used to recommend krylon but they recently changed their forumla or sumtin so i thin that if u r going to use spraypaint i would would use duplicolor. i still use krylon everyonce and a while, its ok but john knows what hes talking about so if he says not to use krylon it should be avoided

Yeah I have a couple of his books and they are really helpful. The customer service is amazing and you can ask him questions and he'll give you a good answer if he knows. There are some good videos that you get access to if you buy the book. He is a professional and has been painting guitars for about 20 years or so i think. Personally, I think it's 30 dollars well spent.
