neptoess
is the best way to do this sanding down+a hair dryer?
SwedishLuthier
Why would you like to remove the top? If you don't like the look, spay an opaque color. The removal of the top, unless it is a real thin veneer, will alter your action (or even require a serious negative neck angle). If you really want a wood finish and hate the appearance of the quilt maple, then sell the body/guitar and start with something that is more right for you. If it is good quilt people are willing to pay dear money for the top alone. Or is it to remedy a goof up or something? Then I suggest a random orbital sander until the top is really thin, then a heat gun. A hair dryer is probably not hot enough to soften the glue. PTU 7's.
If it's a thin veneer you can sand it, or paint it, like swedish luthier said you.
