MP63 Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Can you use sanding sealer on an epoxy filled guitar? The guitar is half maple and the maple didn't get filled with epoxy. I just want to sand and seal it all at once. Thanks, Mike Quote

Thanks, Mike im pretty sure you can. i dont see why sanding sealer and epoxy would react with each other. but if your really unsure try it on a piece of scrap wood. but i am sure it will be fine Quote
erikbojerik Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 I don't think it would be a problem with compatibility, but if the maple is really white and the sealer is apt to tint the wood slightly, you may end up with a somewhat blotchy result in places where the epoxy is still present. Unless its figured, maple doesn't really have much in the way of pores that need real grain filling (as opposed to something like mahogany or walnut). So just to be safe, I'd make sure all the epoxy is sanded off before going with the sanding sealer. ....unless of course you're doing a solid color finish where you'll cover the wood grain with primer anyway....
