Mr. Preston Swift Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I'm redoing my first guitar body because it broke in half. I'm making a semihollow sort of LP double cutaway out of Oak and Quilted maple. How thick are the side suppose to be? By sides i mean how much wood is left on the sides after routing out the cavities. thx Quote

Thin sides serve little purpose on a semi(weight savings is going to be very little). Peace,Rich Quote
Mr. Preston Swift Posted June 28, 2007 Author Report Posted June 28, 2007 thanks, just what i was looking for hopefully i can get my camera working and post my progress in the Finished/in progress section Quote
Mr. Preston Swift Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Now that i know how thick the sides should be i'm not too sure how thick the back should be. The piece of oak i have is about 1 3-4/8 thick. So how far down should i go to keep stability but also get some weight relief? Quote

So how far down should i go to keep stability but also get some weight relief? I'd say about 1/2" again. That will ensure it is strong enough. Quote
